- Step 1: Chill Your Glass – Place your coupe or martini glass in the freezer at least 10 minutes before you start mixing.
- Step 2: Fill Your Shaker With Ice – Pack your cocktail shaker with fresh, quality ice until it's about three-quarters full.
- Step 3: Measure the Sake – Pour exactly 2 ounces of sake into the shaker using your jigger.
- Step 4: Add the Dry Vermouth – Measure 0.5 ounces of dry vermouth and add it to the shaker.
- Step 5: Add the Bitters – Add 2 to 3 dashes of orange bitters to the shaker.
- Step 6: Stir the Mixture – Using a bar spoon or long mixing spoon, stir the ingredients together for about 30 seconds over the ice.
- Step 7: Strain Into Your Glass – Use a hawthorne strainer or fine mesh strainer to pour the cocktail from the shaker into your chilled glass, leaving the ice behind.
- Step 8: Garnish and Serve – Express a lemon twist over the drink by twisting the peel to release its oils, then drop it in or add a cucumber slice for garnish.
Notes
The quality of your sake makes or breaks this cocktail, so use a bottle you'd enjoy sipping straight for best results.
