Method
- Fill a rocks glass with ice cubes and let it chill for 1 minute.
- In a mixing glass, combine 0.5 ounce simple syrup and 2 to 3 dashes Angostura bitters.
- Add 2 ounces Woodford Reserve bourbon to the mixing glass.
- Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with ice cubes.
- Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 30 seconds to chill and dilute.
- Discard the ice from the chilled rocks glass.
- Strain the stirred cocktail into the empty rocks glass using a cocktail strainer.
- Add one large ice cube or 2 to 3 regular ice cubes to the glass.
- Hold an orange peel over the drink and gently squeeze to express oils onto the surface.
- Drop the expressed orange peel into the glass as garnish.
Notes
Use a large ice cube to minimize dilution and maintain flavor balance throughout sipping.
