Ingredients

Main
  • 0.75 ounce Bailey's Irish Cream
  • 0.75 ounce Coconut Rum such as Malibu

Equipment

  • Shot glass (1.5 ounce)
  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Small pouring pitcher or bottle (optional)

Method

  1. Start with a clean, room-temperature 1.5-ounce shot glass.
  2. Measure 0.75 ounce of Bailey's Irish Cream into a jigger and slowly pour into the shot glass, allowing it to settle for 1–2 seconds.
  3. Measure 0.75 ounce of coconut rum in a jigger.
  4. Hold a bar spoon upside down just above the Bailey's surface and slowly pour the coconut rum over the back of the spoon to layer it on top.
  5. Let the shot glass sit undisturbed for 10–15 seconds to allow the layers to fully separate.
  6. Inspect the shot from the side to ensure a clear two-tone separation.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

The key to perfect layering is pouring the coconut rum slowly over the back of a bar spoon held just above the Bailey's surface; patience beats speed every single time.
