Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces vodka chilled
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 ounce triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 fresh lime wedge for garnish and salt rim
  • Kosher salt for rimming the glass
  • 5 to 6 ice cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • Jigger for measuring spirits
  • Bar spoon or long spoon
  • Strainer
  • Cocktail glass or margarita glass
  • Cutting board and knife for lime wedges
  • Small shallow dish for salt rim
  • Citrus juicer (optional)

Method

  1. Pour kosher salt into a shallow dish. Run a fresh lime wedge around the rim of a chilled glass, then press the glass rim into the salt to coat evenly.
  2. Add 5 to 6 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker or mason jar.
  3. Measure 2 ounces of chilled vodka and pour into the shaker over the ice.
  4. Measure 0.5 ounce of triple sec or Cointreau and add to the shaker.
  5. Squeeze fresh lime juice to measure 1 ounce and pour into the shaker.
  6. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the outside is frosty.
  7. Place a strainer over the shaker opening and pour the drink into the salt-rimmed glass, discarding the ice.
  8. Garnish with a fresh lime wedge on the rim and serve immediately while ice-cold.

Notes

Pre-chill your glassware in the freezer for 10 minutes before making the drink to keep it cold longer.
