Ingredients

Main
  • 1.5 ounces fresh lime juice about 1 large lime
  • 1 ounce fresh orange juice freshly squeezed or quality bottled
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup or agave nectar
  • 1 cup cubed ice
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt for rim
  • 1 lime wedge for garnish and rim prep
  • Splash of sparkling water or club soda optional for added fizz

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with tight-fitting lid
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer or press
  • Bar spoon or long spoon for stirring
  • Shallow dish or plate for salt rim
  • Rocks glass or margarita glass
  • Knife and cutting board for lime wedges

Method

  1. Rub the rim of your glass with a fresh lime wedge to moisten it completely.
  2. Pour about a teaspoon of sea salt onto a shallow dish or plate, then rotate the rim of your glass in the salt, making sure it coats evenly.
  3. Add about 1 cup of cubed ice to your cocktail shaker or mason jar.
  4. Pour 1.5 ounces of fresh lime juice into your shaker using a jigger.
  5. Measure out 1 ounce of fresh orange juice and add it to the shaker.
  6. Add 0.5 ounces of simple syrup or agave to your shaker.
  7. Cover your shaker with a tight lid and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds.
  8. Pour the mixture into your salt-rimmed glass filled with fresh ice. If you want extra fizz, top it with a splash of club soda or sparkling water before serving.
  9. Place a fresh lime wheel or wedge on the rim of the glass for garnish and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Always use freshly squeezed lime juice and chill your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before serving for the most refreshing, professional-tasting result. You can store the unsweetened lime and orange juice mixture in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. Shake with ice and sweetener when ready to serve. For variations, try adding jalapeƱo slices for spice, muddled strawberries for a fruity twist, or substitute coconut cream for simple syrup for a tropical version.
