  • 0.25 ounces maraschino liqueur
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 1 large ice cube or several standard cubes
  • 1 lemon twist for garnish
  • 1 cherry for garnish optional

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment before starting to ensure a smooth preparation.
  2. Fill a mixing glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes.
  3. Measure and pour 0.75 ounces of rye whiskey over the ice.
  4. Add 0.75 ounces of cognac to the mixing glass.
  5. Pour in 0.5 ounces of herbal liqueur and 0.25 ounces of maraschino liqueur.
  6. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters.
  7. Stir the mixture gently for 20 to 30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
  8. Strain the cocktail into a chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube or into a chilled coupe glass.
  9. Express a lemon twist over the drink, drop it in, and add a cherry if desired. Serve immediately.
