Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 oz Angostura bitters
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice for shaking
  • Lime wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger (1.5 oz and 0.5 oz capacity)
  • Barspoon
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Coupe glass
  • Small bowl or shot glass

Method
 

  1. Fill a coupe glass with ice water and let it chill while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Measure 1.5 oz rye whiskey into the cocktail shaker.
  3. Add 1 oz Angostura bitters to the shaker.
  4. Pour in 0.5 oz simple syrup.
  5. Squeeze and add 0.5 oz fresh lime juice into the shaker.
  6. Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice.
  7. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds to chill and dilute.
  8. Discard the ice water from the chilled glass and immediately strain the cocktail into it.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel or twist and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately while properly chilled and do not reduce the bitters amount to preserve the signature spiced character.
