Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces vodka chilled
  • 0.75 ounce Kahlua or coffee liqueur
  • 0.5 ounce mascarpone cream or heavy cream mixed with 1 teaspoon mascarpone
  • 0.5 ounce strong brewed espresso or cold brew coffee cooled to room temperature
  • 0.5 ounce half-and-half or whole milk
  • 0.25 ounce simple syrup adjust to taste
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
  • 6 –8 ice cubes for shaking

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Martini or coupe glass
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Small shallow dish or sieve for cocoa powder

Method
 

  1. Place the martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least two minutes to chill.
  2. Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes to pre-chill the shaker.
  3. Pour 1.5 ounces of chilled vodka and 0.75 ounce of Kahlua into the shaker.
  4. Add 0.5 ounce of cooled espresso, 0.5 ounce of mascarpone cream, and 0.5 ounce of half-and-half to the shaker.
  5. Pour in 0.25 ounce of simple syrup, adjusting based on sweetness preference.
  6. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until well chilled and emulsified.
  7. Remove the chilled glass from the freezer and strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into the glass.
  8. Dust the top of the drink generously with unsweetened cocoa powder using a small sieve or dish.

Notes

Serve immediately as an elegant after-dinner cocktail dusted with cocoa powder.
