Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1/2 ounce white rum
  • 1/2 ounce silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce whiskey bourbon or rye
  • 1/2 ounce vodka optional
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 2 ounces cola
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel or wedge for garnish

Equipment

  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring
  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass
  • Bar spoon or long stirring spoon
  • Strainer
  • Highball or rocks glass
  • Ice bucket or freezer
  • Citrus juicer (optional)
  • Bottle opener or cocktail tool

Method
 

  1. Fill a highball or rocks glass with fresh ice cubes and set aside.
  2. Pour 1/2 ounce white rum into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Add 1/2 ounce silver tequila to the shaker.
  4. Add 1/2 ounce whiskey (bourbon or rye) to the shaker.
  5. If using, add 1/2 ounce vodka to the shaker.
  6. Pour in 1/2 ounce simple syrup and 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice.
  7. Close the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until frosted.
  8. Strain the mixture over the ice in the prepared glass, then top with 2 ounces cola and stir gently.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge and serve immediately.

Notes

Fresh lime juice makes a massive difference in this cocktail; squeeze limes right before serving to retain brightness.
