Method
- Place your highball glass in the freezer for at least five minutes before making the drink.
- Remove the glass from the freezer and fill it completely with ice cubes.
- Pour 2 ounces of tequila into the ice-filled glass using your jigger for accuracy.
- Add 0.5 ounce of fresh lime juice directly into the glass with the tequila.
- Pour 4 ounces of fresh orange juice over the tequila and lime mixture.
- Use your bar spoon to stir the mixture gently about 8 to 10 times.
- Tilt the glass slightly and slowly pour the 0.5 ounce of grenadine down the side or over the back of a bar spoon so it sinks to the bottom.
- Place an orange slice on the rim of the glass and add a maraschino cherry on top if you like.
- Serve immediately without stirring to preserve the beautiful layered sunset effect.
Notes
Don't stir after adding the grenadine if you want to preserve the beautiful layered sunset effect. Sip slowly to experience the color change and flavor evolution as the grenadine gradually mixes throughout the drink. Fresh-squeezed orange juice and lime juice make a noticeable difference in flavor quality.
