Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup
  • Lime wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring glass
  • Citrus juicer or bar spoon for squeezing
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Rocks glass or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Cutting board and knife for lime prep

Method

  1. Place your rocks glass or coupe in the freezer for at least two minutes to chill.
  2. Cut your fresh limes in half and juice them into a small bowl or directly into your jigger. Aim for 0.75 ounces of juice, which typically comes from one medium lime.
  3. Pour 2 ounces of silver tequila into your jigger.
  4. Measure 0.5 ounces of simple syrup into your jigger.
  5. Fill your cocktail shaker about three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  6. Pour the tequila, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup into your ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously for about 10 to 12 seconds.
  7. Using your cocktail strainer, pour the drink into your pre-chilled glass filled with fresh ice.
  8. Place a lime wheel on the rim or drop a lime twist into the drink for garnish. Serve immediately.

Notes

Always squeeze your limes fresh right before mixing; lime juice loses its bright character within an hour or two of being squeezed. Use a quality silver tequila without additives for the best flavor. Shake your drink with conviction for the full 10 to 12 seconds to properly chill and integrate the ingredients.
