- Start by hulling and slicing the fresh strawberries to allow their juices to infuse the tea.
- In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- Add the sliced strawberries to the boiling water and let them simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the loose black tea or tea bags, reduce the heat to low, and let it steep for 5 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the sugar while the tea is still warm to dissolve it completely.
- Using a strainer, pour the tea into a teapot or pitcher to remove the strawberry pieces and tea leaves.
- Let the mixture cool to room temperature if you prefer iced tea, then refrigerate until chilled. For hot tea, serve immediately in cups.
- For a zesty twist, add lemon juice before serving.
