Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea or 2 tea bags
  • 1/4 cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice optional

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Strainer or fine-mesh sieve
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Teapot or pitcher
  • Stirring spoon

Method

  1. Start by hulling and slicing the fresh strawberries to allow their juices to infuse the tea.
  2. In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil.
  3. Add the sliced strawberries to the boiling water and let them simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the loose black tea or tea bags, reduce the heat to low, and let it steep for 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the sugar while the tea is still warm to dissolve it completely.
  6. Using a strainer, pour the tea into a teapot or pitcher to remove the strawberry pieces and tea leaves.
  7. Let the mixture cool to room temperature if you prefer iced tea, then refrigerate until chilled. For hot tea, serve immediately in cups.
  8. For a zesty twist, add lemon juice before serving.

Notes

Serve the strawberry tea chilled or hot. Adjust the sweetness to your preference.
