Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup hulled and halved fresh strawberries
  • 2 black tea bags or 2 teaspoons loose black tea
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 cup ice for cold serving

Equipment

  • Electric kettle or stovetop kettle
  • 2 mugs or drinking glasses
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Small saucepan
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Blender or fork for mashing (optional but recommended)

Method

  1. Bring 1.5 cups of water to a rolling boil in a kettle or small saucepan.
  2. Hull and halve 1 cup of fresh strawberries while the water heats.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine strawberries and 2 tablespoons sugar and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until softened and syrup forms.
  4. Pour boiling water over 2 tea bags in a separate cup and steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Strain the strawberry mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing gently to extract all juice.
  6. Remove the tea bags and discard; if using loose tea, strain to remove leaves.
  7. Combine the brewed tea and strawberry syrup, stirring until well blended.
  8. Stir in 0.5 cup milk slowly to create a gradient effect and adjust sugar to taste.
  9. For hot serving, pour into warmed mugs and serve immediately; for cold, pour over ice and enjoy.

Notes

Store leftover strawberry syrup separately in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Reheat gently over low heat before combining with freshly brewed tea.
