Ingredients

Main
  • 4 to 5 medium strawberries hulled and halved
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 0.5 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
  • 0.5 ounce agave nectar
  • 1 cup ice crushed or cubed
  • 1 lime wheel for garnish
  • 1 whole strawberry for garnish
  • Sea salt optional, for rimming the glass

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with tight-fitting lid
  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring
  • Strainer or fine-mesh sieve
  • Rocks glass or lowball glass
  • Bar spoon or long spoon
  • Cutting board and sharp knife
  • Muddler or back of a wooden spoon

Method

  1. Remove the green hulls from the strawberries and cut them in half lengthwise.
  2. Place the halved strawberries in the shaker and gently muddle for 10 to 15 seconds to release juice without pulverizing the fruit.
  3. Pour 1 ounce of fresh lime juice over the muddled strawberries in the shaker.
  4. Add 2 ounces of silver tequila and 0.5 ounce of Cointreau or triple sec to the shaker.
  5. Pour in 0.5 ounce of agave nectar and stir briefly to combine.
  6. Fill the shaker with 1 cup of ice and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the shaker exterior is frosty.
  7. If desired, rim a rocks glass with sea salt, then fill the glass with fresh ice cubes.
  8. Strain the margarita into the prepared glass, leaving the muddled fruit and ice behind.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and a whole strawberry on top of the ice, then serve immediately.

Notes

Chill your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before serving to help the margarita stay cold longer.
