Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces gin London Dry style
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup
  • 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup cubed ice

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Bar spoon
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Coupe glass
  • Muddler
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Chill your coupe glass by filling it with ice and water, then set aside.
  2. Cut the lime in half and juice both pieces through a fine strainer into your shaker.
  3. Pick 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves and gently bruise them in the shaker with a muddler or back of a spoon.
  4. Pour in 2 ounces gin and 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice into the shaker with the mint.
  5. Add 0.5 ounces simple syrup and stir gently to combine.
  6. Fill the shaker three-quarters full with approximately 1 cup of cubed ice.
  7. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds using an up-and-down motion.
  8. Discard the ice and water from your chilled glass and strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne strainer.
  9. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig on top or across the rim before serving.

Notes

Use bar ice and shake vigorously for best texture; gentle mint muddling prevents bitterness.
