Method
- Chill a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes.
- Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with a large ice cube or several regular ice cubes.
- Measure 2 ounces of rye whiskey or bourbon with a jigger and pour into the shaker.
- Add 0.5 ounce of Kahlua or other coffee liqueur to the shaker.
- Pour in 0.25 ounce of freshly squeezed orange juice.
- Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the mixture.
- Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 15 to 20 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.
- Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass, adding a fresh large ice cube if using a rocks presentation.
- Use a citrus peeler to cut a 2-inch strip of orange peel, squeeze the oils over the drink, and drop it in or place on the rim.
Notes
Serve immediately as a sophisticated after-dinner cocktail or nightcap.
