  • 1 teaspoon dried butterfly pea flowers
  • 2 ounces hot water
  • 1.5 ounces spiced rum
  • 0.5 ounce crème de violette
  • 0.75 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 cup cubed ice
  • Edible glitter or rock sugar for garnish optional
  • Fresh lemon wheel for garnish

Method
 

  1. Heat 2 ounces of water until steaming and add 1 teaspoon of dried butterfly pea flowers.
  2. Steep the flowers for 3-5 minutes until the water turns a deep blue, then strain through a fine mesh strainer and let cool.
  3. Fill a mixing glass with 1 cup of cubed ice.
  4. Measure and pour 1.5 ounces of spiced rum over the ice.
  5. Add 0.5 ounce of crème de violette to the mixing glass.
  6. Pour the cooled butterfly pea flower tea into the mixing glass.
  7. Add 0.75 ounce of fresh lemon juice and 0.5 ounce of simple syrup.
  8. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 10-15 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients.
  9. Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or rocks glass.
  10. Garnish with edible glitter or rock sugar and a fresh lemon wheel, then serve immediately.

Notes

Best served fresh and cold to preserve the color-changing effect.
