Ingredients

Main
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 0.5 ounce strawberry liqueur such as Strawberry Schnapps or Pinnacle Strawberry Vodka
  • 0.5 ounce grenadine

Equipment

  • Shot glass (1.5 ounce capacity)
  • Jigger for measuring (1 ounce and 0.5 ounce markers)
  • Spoon (bar spoon or regular long spoon)
  • Small mixing glass or cup (optional, for batching)

Method

  1. Set out your shot glass, jigger, spoon, and all three liquids on a clean surface. Having everything ready makes the mixing process smooth and prevents spills or mistakes.
  2. Pour exactly 1 ounce of vodka into your shot glass using the jigger to measure precisely.
  3. Using the 0.5 ounce side of your jigger, measure out the strawberry liqueur and pour it into the shot glass on top of the vodka.
  4. Insert your bar spoon into the glass and stir gently for about three seconds, mixing the vodka and strawberry liqueur thoroughly.
  5. Using the 0.5 ounce jigger marking, carefully measure your grenadine.
  6. Hold your bar spoon upside down about a half inch above the surface of the vodka and strawberry mixture, and slowly pour the grenadine over the back of the spoon to create layers.
  7. Watch as the grenadine sinks through the lighter liquids and pools at the bottom of the shot glass, creating distinct pink layers.
  8. Wait about fifteen seconds before serving to let the grenadine fully settle and the layers to become clearly defined.
  9. Serve immediately and drink straight down or sip slowly to enjoy the layered flavors. The shot tastes best consumed right after mixing.

Notes

Pro Tip: Pour the grenadine slowly over the back of a bar spoon to create clean layers, and serve the shot ice cold straight from the freezer for maximum impact and smoothness. Keep your bottles in the freezer for at least two hours before mixing so the shot is ice cold when served. This recipe easily multiplies for party batches.
