Main
  • 2 oz whiskey bourbon or rye
  • 1 sugar cube or 1/2 tsp simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 orange twist for garnish
  • 1 cherry for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Strainer
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Old Fashioned glass (or rocks glass)

Method

  1. Start by chilling your Old Fashioned glass.
  2. Place the sugar cube in the mixing glass and add the bitters. Muddle them together.
  3. Pour in the whiskey of your choice.
  4. Add a large ice cube or several smaller cubes to the mixing glass.
  5. Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds.
  6. Using a strainer, pour the mixture into your chilled Old Fashioned glass filled with fresh ice.
  7. Express the oils from the orange twist over the drink and drop it in as a garnish.
  8. Optionally, add a cherry for a pop of color and sweetness.

Notes

Use a large ice cube to slow the dilution and keep your drink perfectly chilled.
