  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Using a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters, cut out your donuts.
  7. In a deep fryer or pot, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Fry the donuts in batches for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve the donuts slightly warm for the best flavor. They pair wonderfully with a hot cup of coffee or tea.
