Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces premium vodka chilled
  • 1 ounce Kahlua or coffee liqueur
  • 1 ounce freshly pulled Nespresso espresso cooled slightly, about 30 seconds
  • Ice cubes for shaking
  • Coffee beans for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Nespresso machine or espresso machine
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring shot glass
  • Strainer
  • Cocktail glass or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Pull your Nespresso shot: insert a Nespresso capsule and pull a single shot into a heat-safe cup, then let the espresso cool for 30 seconds.
  2. Chill your glassware: fill your cocktail glass with ice and cold water or place it in the freezer for one minute, then discard the ice and water.
  3. Pour vodka into the shaker: measure and pour 2 ounces of chilled vodka into your cocktail shaker.
  4. Add the coffee liqueur: pour 1 ounce of Kahlua or coffee liqueur into the shaker.
  5. Add the cooled espresso: carefully pour in the cooled Nespresso espresso, allowing the crema to remain on top.
  6. Fill the shaker with ice: add enough ice cubes to fill the shaker about halfway.
  7. Shake vigorously: secure the lid and shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  8. Strain into your chilled glass: strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a fine strainer to hold back ice shards.
  9. Garnish and serve: drop three coffee beans onto the foam layer, serve immediately, and enjoy.

Notes

Serve immediately to maintain the foam and temperature, and always use fresh espresso for the best crema.
