Ingredients

Main
  • 12 ounces tequila 1.5 oz per shot
  • 4 ounces tamarind syrup or tamarind paste 0.5 oz per shot
  • 2 ounces lime juice fresh squeezed
  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon sugar for rimming
  • 1 tablespoon salt for rimming
  • 1 teaspoon Tajin or chili powder optional, for extra heat
  • 8 lime wedges for dipping and garnish

Equipment

  • Shot glasses (8)
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Small shallow dish or plate
  • Bar spoon or small spoon
  • Bottle opener

Method

  1. Mix the cinnamon, sugar, salt, and tajin (if using) in a small shallow dish.
  2. Take a lime wedge and run it around the rim of each shot glass, making sure to wet the entire rim evenly.
  3. Dip each lime-wetted rim into the cinnamon sugar mixture, twisting the glass gently to ensure full coverage.
  4. Pour 1.5 ounces of tequila into each shot glass using a jigger for accuracy.
  5. Add 0.5 ounces of tamarind syrup to each glass, pouring it slowly so it mixes slightly with the tequila.
  6. Squeeze about 0.25 ounces of fresh lime juice into each shot and stir gently with a bar spoon.
  7. Make one test shot before serving the rest and taste it for balance. If it feels too sweet, add slightly more lime juice; if too tart, add a touch more tamarind syrup.
  8. Serve the shots immediately over a small ice cube if you prefer them cold, or at room temperature. Have lime wedges nearby for sipping between shots.

Notes

Use real tamarind syrup or paste instead of artificial mixes for authentic flavor. Squeeze lime juice fresh right before making the shots. Pre-rim your glasses and mix your tamarind-lime-tequila base in a small pitcher up to 2 hours ahead of time for stress-free entertaining. Store prepared shot glasses covered in the fridge for up to 2 hours before serving.
