Ingredients

Main
  • 8 ounces hot water freshly boiled
  • 1 chamomile tea bag or 1 teaspoon loose leaf
  • 1 ginger tea bag or 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon honey raw if possible
  • 1.5 ounces fresh lemon juice about half a lemon
  • 1.5 ounces fresh orange juice about half an orange
  • 1 small piece fresh ginger slice for garnish optional

Equipment

  • 12 to 16 ounce glass mug or cup
  • Small saucepan or electric kettle
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Strainer or mesh tea infuser
  • Small grater or microplane
  • Citrus juicer

Method

  1. Fill a small saucepan or electric kettle with 8 ounces of fresh water and bring it to a rolling boil.
  2. Place both tea bags directly into your mug or cup. If using loose leaf tea, add the chamomile and ginger to an infuser or strainer that you'll place in the mug.
  3. Carefully pour the boiling water over the tea bags, filling the mug three-quarters full.
  4. Let the tea bags sit undisturbed for 4 to 5 minutes to fully steep.
  5. Remove and discard the tea bags, gently squeezing them against the side of the mug with a spoon to extract every bit of flavor.
  6. Stir 1 tablespoon of honey into the hot tea until it completely dissolves.
  7. Pour in 1.5 ounces of fresh lemon juice and 1.5 ounces of fresh orange juice.
  8. Stir everything together thoroughly and taste. Adjust the honey or citrus juice to your preference.
  9. Drink the medicine ball while it's warm, or pour it over ice if you prefer a cold version. Garnish with fresh ginger slice if desired.

Notes

Juice your citrus just before making the drink to maximize the vitamin C content and flavor. Use freshly boiled water and brew for the full 4 to 5 minutes to extract maximum flavor and benefits from the tea. Store leftover medicine ball in an airtight glass container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
