Main
  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder ceremonial grade preferred
  • 1/4 cup hot water 160-170°F
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice from about 3-4 lemons
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave syrup
  • 1 cup cold water or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Matcha whisk (bamboo chasen) or small wire whisk
  • Small ceramic or glass bowl
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Two glasses or one pitcher

Method

  1. Pour 1/4 cup of water into a small bowl and heat it to around 160-170°F.
  2. Measure 2 teaspoons of matcha powder and sift it into the heated water to remove clumps.
  3. Whisk the matcha in a quick back-and-forth motion for about 30 seconds until fully dissolved and foamy.
  4. Squeeze fresh lemons until you have 1/2 cup of lemon juice.
  5. Stir 2 tablespoons of honey or agave syrup into the warm matcha mixture until fully combined.
  6. Pour the matcha mixture into a glass or pitcher, add the fresh lemon juice, and stir well.
  7. Add 1 cup of cold water or sparkling water to the mixture and stir to combine.
  8. Fill two glasses with ice cubes and pour the matcha lemonade over the ice, then serve immediately.

Notes

Water temperature is crucial; use water around 160-170°F to avoid burning the matcha and creating bitterness.
