Ingredients

Main
  • 2 teaspoons ceremonial-grade matcha powder
  • 2 tablespoons condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup hot water about 160-170°F, not boiling
  • 3/4 cup cold milk of choice
  • 2-3 tablespoons whipped cream

Equipment

  • Tall glass or coffee glass (10-12 ounces)
  • Matcha whisk (chasen) or small wire whisk
  • Small bowl for whisking matcha
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Whipped cream dispenser or hand mixer (optional)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups

Method

  1. Measure 2 teaspoons of ceremonial-grade matcha powder into a small bowl and sift through a fine mesh strainer to remove lumps.
  2. Boil water, then let it sit for 30 seconds to cool to 160-170°F before using.
  3. Pour 1/4 cup of hot water into the sifted matcha and whisk in a gentle back-and-forth motion for about 30 seconds until smooth and frothy.
  4. Pour 3/4 cup of cold milk into a tall glass.
  5. Slowly pour the whisked matcha over the cold milk from about 2 inches above the glass to create a layered effect.
  6. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of condensed milk into the glass using a spoon, allowing it to sink to the bottom.
  7. Stir the drink thoroughly with a long spoon, pulling from the bottom to combine the condensed milk evenly.
  8. Top the drink with 2-3 tablespoons of whipped cream and serve immediately for the best layered appearance.

Notes
