Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces 60 milliliters vodka
  • 1/2 ounce 15 milliliters lychee syrup (from canned lychees)
  • 1/2 ounce 15 milliliters dry vermouth
  • 2 to 3 pieces fresh lychees for garnish
  • Ice for chilling and shaking
  • Lemon twist optional for extra brightness

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Martini glass or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon or long mixing spoon
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Cutting board for garnish prep
  • Small paring knife

Method

  1. Place your martini glass in the freezer for at least 3 minutes before you start mixing, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink.
  2. Pack your cocktail shaker about three-quarters full with ice cubes, making sure each piece is solid with no slush.
  3. Pour exactly 2 ounces of vodka into your jigger, then transfer it to the ice-filled shaker.
  4. Measure out 1/2 ounce of lychee syrup from your can of lychees and add it to the shaker with the vodka.
  5. Add 1/2 ounce of dry vermouth to the shaker.
  6. Seal your shaker and shake hard for 10 to 12 seconds until the outside becomes frosty and cold.
  7. Remove your martini glass from the freezer and discard any ice water that has accumulated inside.
  8. Position your cocktail strainer over the shaker and pour the liquid smoothly into your prepared glass, leaving the ice behind in the shaker.
  9. Drop 2 or 3 fresh lychees into the bottom of your glass as garnish, or thread them onto a cocktail pick for visual appeal.

Notes

Chill your glass before mixing every time for the best results. Use quality vodka since it will be your most prominent ingredient. Keep vermouth refrigerated after opening and use within a month. Double the ingredients if making two martinis rather than shaking them separately. Shake hard and confidently for proper texture and chill factor.
