Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup fresh mint leaves packed
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 cups ice
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons sugar or honey optional

Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Citrus juicer or hand juicer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Tall drinking glasses
  • Strainer or fine-mesh sieve
  • Spoon for stirring

Method

  1. Rinse fresh mint leaves under cool water and pat them dry.
  2. Cut lemons in half and juice them until you have 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice.
  3. Measure 1 cup of cold water and 2 cups of ice and place them near the blender.
  4. Add the mint leaves and cold water to the blender and blend on high speed for 15 seconds until the water turns pale green.
  5. Pour in the fresh lemon juice and pulse gently a few times to combine.
  6. Add the ice and blend on high speed for 20 to 30 seconds until the mixture becomes slushy.
  7. Taste the limonana and, if too tart, add 1 tablespoon of sugar or honey, then blend briefly to incorporate.
  8. Strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve into tall glasses, pressing gently on any pulp.
  9. Garnish each glass with a fresh mint sprig and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately as the drink stays cold for only about 15 minutes before the ice melts.
