Ingredients

Main
  • 1.5 ounces Kahlua liqueur
  • 1 to 1.5 ounces heavy cream or half-and-half
  • Ice cubes as needed
  • Optional: Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish
  • Optional: Whipped cream for topping

Equipment

  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Rocks glass or lowball glass
  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon
  • ice cubes or crushed ice
  • liqueur bottle with pour spout (optional)

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients, measure your Kahlua and cream, and chill your glass if desired.
  2. Fill a rocks glass three quarters full with ice cubes to keep the drink cold.
  3. Measure 1.5 ounces of Kahlua using a jigger or shot glass and pour it over the ice.
  4. Measure 1 to 1.5 ounces of heavy cream or half-and-half based on preferred richness.
  5. Hold a bar spoon just above the Kahlua layer and slowly pour the cream over the back of the spoon to create a floating layer.
  6. Stir gently with a bar spoon for a few rotations if you prefer a uniform mix, or leave layered for visual effect.
  7. Top with optional garnishes such as a sprinkle of cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, or a dollop of whipped cream.
  8. Serve immediately to enjoy at its coldest and most flavorful.

Notes

For best results, keep cream cold and glass chilled. Adjust cream-to-Kahlua ratio to taste and garnish for a touch of sophistication.
