Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 ounces Japanese whisky
  • 4.5 ounces soda water
  • 1 large ice cube or 4 to 5 smaller cubes
  • Lemon twist or yuzu optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • Highball or rocks glass (10 to 12 ounces)
  • Measuring jigger (1.5 ounce and 0.75 ounce marks)
  • Long bar spoon or stirring rod
  • Bottle of quality soda water or club soda
  • Ice (large cube or multiple smaller cubes)

Method
 

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice and chill the glass for 1 minute.
  2. Pour 1.5 ounces of Japanese whisky into a measuring jigger.
  3. Discard the ice and dry the inside of the glass with a clean cloth.
  4. Add fresh ice to the glass, using either one large cube or 4 to 5 smaller cubes.
  5. Slowly pour the measured whisky over the ice.
  6. Immediately add 4.5 ounces of cold soda water, pouring in a steady stream.
  7. Stir gently with a bar spoon for about 10 seconds to mix while preserving carbonation.
  8. Express a lemon twist over the drink, add as garnish, and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately to maintain carbonation and enjoy at its peak refreshing quality.
