Method
- Add 4 to 6 large ice cubes to your highball glass. Fresh, quality ice is essential because it melts more slowly, keeping your drink properly chilled without diluting it too quickly.
- Pour exactly 1.5 ounces of Jack Daniel's whiskey over the ice using a jigger. This ratio creates the perfect balance between whiskey flavor and cola sweetness.
- Pour 4 to 6 ounces of chilled cola over the whiskey. The bubbles in the cola add texture and help distribute the flavors throughout the drink as you stir.
- Use a cocktail spoon or long bar spoon to stir the drink with about 6 to 8 gentle rotations. Stirring combines the whiskey and cola evenly while keeping the carbonation intact.
- Take a sip and adjust the ratio if needed by adding a splash more cola or whiskey to suit your preference.
- Squeeze the lime wedge over the drink, allowing the juice to fall in and the oils to express over the surface. Drop the wedge into the glass as garnish or discard it depending on your preference.
- If your ice has melted slightly during preparation, add one or two fresh cubes to keep your final drink at optimal temperature.
- Serve immediately while the cola is still fizzy and everything is properly chilled.
Notes
Use fresh cola from a full bottle or can, not from a bottle that's been open for days, because flat cola creates a flat drink no matter how good your whiskey is. Chill your glass before pouring by rinsing it with cold water or keeping it in the freezer. A cold glass keeps your drink cold longer and prevents the ice from melting as quickly.
