Ingredients

Main
  • 64 ounces orange juice about 2 quarts, fresh or frozen thawed
  • 32 ounces pineapple juice one standard bottle
  • 32 ounces ginger ale one 2-liter bottle works, or two 1-liter bottles
  • 32 ounces lemon-lime soda one 2-liter bottle, or use Sprite or 7-Up
  • 1 large bag ice about 5 pounds
  • 1 fresh orange for slicing and garnish
  • 1 fresh lemon for slicing and garnish
  • Optional: fresh mint leaves or maraschino cherries for decoration

Equipment

  • Large punch bowl or beverage dispenser
  • Ladle or serving spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife for cutting fruit garnish
  • Cutting board
  • Large spoon for stirring
  • Ice bucket or cooler

Method

  1. Set up your punch bowl in a central location where guests can easily access it, and position all your equipment nearby.
  2. Pour the entire bag of ice into the punch bowl, filling it about halfway full.
  3. Measure out 64 ounces of orange juice and pour it over the ice into the bowl.
  4. Pour in the 32 ounces of pineapple juice and stir the mixture gently with a long spoon.
  5. Open your ginger ale and carefully pour it into the bowl, stirring gently to combine without losing all the carbonation.
  6. Pour in the lemon-lime soda and give everything a final gentle stir, being careful not to over-mix and flatten the carbonation.
  7. Take a spoon and taste your punch before the guests arrive, adjusting the flavor balance if necessary. If it tastes too sweet, add more ice or a splash of club soda; if it tastes too weak or watered down, add more juice.
  8. Slice your orange and lemon into thin rounds or half-moons, and float them on top of the punch along with any mint leaves if you're using them.
  9. Store extra ice in a cooler nearby so you can add more to the bowl as the original ice melts throughout the party to keep the punch tasting fresh.

Notes

Mix the punch no more than 30 minutes before guests arrive so the carbonation stays fresh. Chill all juices and sodas beforehand to keep the punch colder longer. Make juice-based ice cubes the night before by freezing orange juice or pineapple juice in ice cube trays to prevent dilution. Hunch punch stays fresh and carbonated for about 2 to 3 hours at room temperature with regular ice replenishment. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, though carbonation will decline significantly.
