Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 ounces Hennessy cognac
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 ounces orange liqueur Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • 0.25 ounces simple syrup
  • 1 cup ice for shaking
  • 1 lime wheel for garnish
  • Coarse sea salt for rimming (optional)

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring glass
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Margarita glass or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Cutting board and knife for citrus
  • Ice

Method
 

  1. Chill your glass by placing your margarita glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the salt rim by pouring coarse sea salt onto a plate, rubbing a lime wedge around the rim of the chilled glass, and dipping the rim into the salt.
  3. Using a jigger, pour 1.5 ounces of Hennessy cognac into the cocktail shaker.
  4. Add 0.5 ounces of orange liqueur into the shaker.
  5. Pour 0.75 ounces of fresh lime juice into the shaker.
  6. Add 0.25 ounces of simple syrup to the shaker.
  7. Fill the shaker with 1 cup of ice and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds.
  8. Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel and serve immediately.

Notes

Always use freshly squeezed lime juice and shake for a full 10 to 12 seconds for best flavor and texture.
