Method
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass to coat with fresh lime juice.
- Pour chili-salt mixture onto a shallow plate and invert the wet glass to coat the rim evenly.
- Add about one cup of ice to your cocktail shaker, filling it three-quarters full.
- Measure and pour 1.5 ounces of tequila and 0.75 ounces of Cointreau into the ice-filled shaker.
- Add 1 ounce of fresh lime juice and 0.25 ounces of black licorice liqueur; if using, add 0.5 ounces of fresh orange juice.
- Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the outside is frosty.
- Strain the mixture into the prepared rimmed glass, leaving the ice behind in the shaker.
- Add fresh ice if desired and garnish with an orange or lime wheel; serve immediately while ice-cold.
Notes
Always use freshly squeezed lime juice and serve immediately while the drink is ice-cold and the rim is crisp.
