Ingredients

Main
  • 4 ounces champagne or sparkling wine chilled
  • 0.5 ounces melon liqueur
  • 0.5 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 5 to 7 fresh mint leaves plus one sprig for garnish
  • 0.25 ounces simple syrup optional
  • 3 to 4 ice cubes
  • Lime wheel for garnish

Equipment

  • Champagne flute or wine glass
  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring
  • Bar spoon or long cocktail spoon
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Muddler or back of a wooden spoon
  • Citrus juicer or reamer

Method

  1. Place your champagne flute or wine glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes to chill.
  2. Gently tear or bruise 5 to 7 fresh mint leaves with your hands to release oils without shredding.
  3. Fill the chilled glass with 3 to 4 ice cubes.
  4. Measure out 0.5 ounces of melon liqueur and pour it into the ice-filled glass.
  5. Pour 0.5 ounces of freshly squeezed lime juice into the glass.
  6. Drop the torn mint leaves into the glass and stir gently for about 10 seconds.
  7. Slowly pour chilled champagne or sparkling wine into the glass until nearly full, about 4 ounces, to preserve bubbles.
  8. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and a lime wheel on the rim or in the drink, then serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately while the bubbles are still lively and the drink is properly chilled.
