Method
- Place your martini glass in the freezer for at least two minutes before mixing the cocktail.
- Cut a fresh grapefruit in half and juice it using a citrus reamer or juicer, aiming for 3 ounces of juice.
- Cut a fresh lime in half and juice it to get 0.5 ounce of lime juice; use it immediately for best flavor.
- Fill your cocktail shaker about three-quarters full with ice cubes for proper chilling and dilution.
- Pour 2 ounces of vodka and 0.5 ounce of dry vermouth into the shaker using a jigger.
- Add 3 ounces of fresh grapefruit juice, 0.5 ounce of lime juice, and 0.25 ounce of simple syrup to the shaker.
- Close the shaker and shake vigorously for about ten seconds, until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty and cold.
- Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer into the chilled martini glass to remove ice shards.
- Express the oils from a grapefruit twist over the drink and drop the twist into the glass as garnish.
Notes
Always use fresh citrus juice squeezed within minutes of mixing your drink; this single step makes the most difference to the final taste.
