Method
- Wash turmeric root, ginger, oranges, and lemon under cold running water; peel the turmeric and ginger to ensure a smooth juice.
- Cut the oranges in half and juice them using a juicer to yield about 1 cup of fresh orange juice; juice the lemon separately.
- Slice the peeled turmeric and ginger into thin 1/4-inch slices to maximize infusion.
- Pour 1 cup of filtered water into a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat (about 180°F) for 2 minutes.
- Add the turmeric and ginger slices to the simmering water and steep for 2 minutes to extract flavors and compounds.
- Remove the pan from heat and stir in the fresh orange juice and lemon juice to cool slightly and enhance nutrient absorption.
- Season the mixture with a pinch of black pepper, a pinch of sea salt, and add honey or maple syrup if using; stir until combined.
- Strain the juice through a fine mesh strainer into serving glasses to remove any bits of turmeric and ginger.
- Serve the juice immediately while warm, or chill in the refrigerator for up to 3 days for a refreshing cold drink.
Notes
Store in a sealed glass container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; shake or stir before serving as natural settling may occur.
