Method
- Rinse 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves under cool water and tear them into rough pieces with your fingers.
- Place the torn mint leaves into your glass and gently muddle for about 10 seconds to release the oils without pulverizing the leaves.
- Pour 0.5 ounce simple syrup over the muddled mint in the glass.
- Fill the glass about three-quarters full with crushed ice.
- Pour 2 ounces of bourbon slowly over the ice and mint.
- Top the drink with 0.5 ounce of water to balance the flavors.
- Stir all ingredients together thoroughly for about 15 seconds.
- Garnish with one fresh mint sprig on top of the drink.
Notes
Make your simple syrup ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator so you can whip up a mint julep anytime without delay.
