Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup fresh cucumber peeled and cut into chunks (about half a medium cucumber)
  • 2 ounces gin or vodka, white rum, or tequila
  • 0.75 ounces fresh lime juice squeezed from about half a lime
  • 0.5 ounces simple syrup or honey syrup
  • 3 to 4 fresh mint leaves optional but recommended
  • Ice as needed for shaking and serving
  • Cucumber slice or ribbon for garnish
  • Pinch of sea salt optional

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring
  • Bar spoon or long spoon
  • Muddler or back of a wooden spoon
  • Strainer or fine-mesh sieve
  • Cutting board and sharp knife
  • Cocktail glass or rocks glass
  • Vegetable peeler (optional)

Method

  1. Wash your cucumber thoroughly, scoop out seeds if large, peel, and cut into roughly 1-inch chunks.
  2. Place your cocktail glass in the freezer for at least 2 minutes to chill.
  3. Add cucumber chunks and mint leaves to the shaker and gently muddle to release juice without pulverizing.
  4. Pour 2 ounces of gin (or chosen spirit) into the shaker.
  5. Add 0.75 ounces of fresh lime juice and 0.5 ounces of simple syrup to the shaker.
  6. Fill the shaker halfway with ice and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the shaker is frosted.
  7. Remove the chilled glass from the freezer and strain the cocktail into it over fresh ice.
  8. Garnish with a cucumber slice or ribbon and add a pinch of sea salt if desired.
  9. Serve immediately while cold and enjoy your refreshing cocktail.
