Cuban Mojito

Ingredients
  

Main
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 lime cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or simple syrup
  • 1 1/2 ounces white rum
  • Soda water to top off
  • Ice cubes for serving

Equipment

  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Jigger or measuring spoons
  • Glass (highball or rocks)
  • Stirring spoon

Method
 

  1. Place the mint leaves and lime wedges in your glass.
  2. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press the mint and lime together, releasing the mint oils and lime juice.
  3. Sprinkle the sugar over the muddled mint and lime, then continue to gently muddle the mixture.
  4. Add the white rum to the glass and stir gently.
  5. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  6. Pour soda water over the ice until the glass is full.
  7. Use a stirring spoon to mix the ingredients together.
  8. Garnish with a sprig of mint or a lime wheel.

Notes

For the freshest taste, use freshly squeezed lime juice instead of bottled juice.
