Method
- Chill your coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice water or placing it in the freezer for at least 3 minutes.
- Fill your mixing glass with fresh ice until three-quarters full.
- Measure and pour 2.5 ounces of gin over the ice using a jigger.
- Add 0.5 ounces of dry vermouth to the mixing glass.
- Stir the mixture gently with a barspoon for 25 to 30 seconds to chill and dilute properly.
- Discard the ice water from your chilled serving glass and set it aside.
- Strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or martini glass.
- Express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink or add olives, then serve immediately.
Notes
For an extra dry martini, reduce vermouth to taste. Serve immediately while ice cold.
