Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces tequila blanco or reposado if you prefer
  • 3 ounces fresh cranberry juice
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge for garnish
  • Sea salt for rimming optional
  • Sparkling water splash optional, about 1/2 ounce

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Jigger or measuring spoon
  • Rocks or highball glass
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Citrus juicer (optional)
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Fill your rocks or highball glass with fresh ice cubes, packing them tightly so they don’t melt too quickly.
  2. Pour 2 ounces of tequila blanco into your cocktail shaker using a jigger for accuracy.
  3. Add 3 ounces of fresh cranberry juice to the shaker with the tequila.
  4. Squeeze fresh lime juice into the shaker until you have 1 ounce.
  5. Pour in 1/2 ounce of simple syrup and add a splash of sparkling water if desired.
  6. Fill the shaker about halfway with ice cubes and cap it securely.
  7. Shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels frosty.
  8. Strain the mixture into your prepared ice-filled glass, discarding the ice from the shaker.
  9. Garnish with a lime wedge and rim with sea salt if desired before serving.

Notes

For best results use fresh cranberry juice and serve in a chilled glass.
