Chocolate Espresso Martini

Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces 60 ml premium quality vodka
  • 1 ounce 30 ml fresh espresso, cooled to room temperature
  • 0.5 ounces 15 ml chocolate liqueur, such as Creme de Cacao
  • 0.5 ounces 15 ml simple syrup
  • 0.25 ounces 8 ml heavy cream (for the float)
  • Pinch cocoa powder for garnish
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with tight lid
  • Jigger or measuring spoon for accuracy
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Martini glass or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Espresso machine or strong brewed coffee

Method
 

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso and let it cool to room temperature (about 1 minute).
  2. Chill your martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 2 minutes.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker with about 1 cup of fresh ice cubes.
  4. Measure and pour 2 ounces (60 ml) vodka into the shaker.
  5. Add 1 ounce (30 ml) of cooled espresso to the shaker.
  6. Pour in 0.5 ounces (15 ml) chocolate liqueur and 0.5 ounces (15 ml) simple syrup.
  7. Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12 to 15 seconds.
  8. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glass using a fine mesh strainer.
  9. Slowly float 0.25 ounces (8 ml) heavy cream on top by pouring over the back of a spoon.
  10. Dust a pinch of cocoa powder over the cream float for garnish.

Notes

Serve immediately after making to maintain the cream float and chilled texture.
