Ingredients

Main
  • 1.5 ounces premium silver tequila
  • 1 ounce triple sec or Cointreau
  • 0.5 ounce fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 0.25 ounce fresh lemon juice about one quarter of a lemon
  • 0.5 ounce sweet and sour mix or margarita mix
  • 1.5 cups ice about 12 to 15 cubes
  • Kosher salt for rimming
  • Lime wheel for garnish
  • 0.25 ounce agave nectar optional

Equipment

  • Blender (high-powered preferred)
  • Margarita glass or similar cocktail glass
  • Measuring jigger or shot glass
  • Lime for rimming and garnish
  • Shallow dish for salt rim
  • Bar spoon or long mixing spoon
  • Cutting board and knife

Method

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your margarita glass to wet it, then dip the rim into kosher salt in a shallow dish to coat evenly.
  2. Measure and pour 1.5 ounces of premium silver tequila into the blender pitcher.
  3. Add 1 ounce of triple sec or Cointreau to the blender.
  4. Squeeze 0.5 ounce of fresh lime juice and 0.25 ounce of fresh lemon juice into the blender.
  5. Pour in 0.5 ounce of sweet and sour mix or margarita mix, and add 0.25 ounce of agave nectar if using.
  6. Add 1.5 cups of ice to the blender, leaving space for proper blending.
  7. Blend on high speed for 45 to 60 seconds until the mixture is smooth and slushy, adding a splash of water if too thick or more ice if too thin.
  8. Carefully pour the blended margarita into the prepared glass, filling it almost to the top.
  9. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

Chill your margarita glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before pouring to keep it colder longer. Adjust sweetness to taste by varying the sweet and sour mix or adding agave nectar. Serve immediately as frozen margaritas melt quickly.
