Method
- Pour 1 cup of your chosen milk into a tall glass.
- Pour 3 tablespoons of chia seeds directly into the milk. The seeds will initially float and clump together.
- Stir the mixture vigorously for about 30 seconds, breaking up any clumps of seeds to prevent them from settling into one thick mass at the bottom.
- Set the drink down and let it sit undisturbed for 2 minutes. During this time, the seeds absorb liquid and release their soluble fiber.
- Give it another good stir for about 30 seconds, making sure to reach the bottom of the glass where seeds may have settled.
- Stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of your chosen sweetener, depending on how sweet you like your drinks.
- Pour in 2 to 3 tablespoons of your flavor base (fruit juice, puree, vanilla extract, or cocoa powder). Stir well to combine everything evenly.
- Add just a tiny pinch of salt if using, then taste and adjust sweetness or flavor as needed. For a completely smooth drink without seed texture, blend everything on high for 20 seconds.
Notes
Use fresh, good-quality chia seeds for best results. Cold milk creates a more refreshing drink. The drink can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; stir before drinking as seeds settle. For meal prep, make the night before and refrigerate. If the drink becomes too thick, add more milk a tablespoon at a time.
