Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 to 4 cardamom pods lightly crushed
  • 1 tea bag black tea or 1 teaspoon loose leaf tea
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk optional
  • Honey or sweetener to taste
  • 1 small cinnamon stick optional

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or kettle
  • Tea strainer or fine mesh sieve
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Mug for serving
  • Mortar and pestle

Method
 

  1. Crush 3 to 4 cardamom pods lightly in a mortar and pestle until fragrant.
  2. Pour 1 cup of fresh cold water into a small saucepan and add the crushed cardamom pods and cinnamon stick if using.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer the cardamom for 2 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  5. Add the tea bag or loose leaf tea and steep for 2 to 3 minutes, depending on desired strength.
  6. Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve into a mug, catching the cardamom pods and tea leaves.
  7. Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk and honey or sweetener to taste.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your warm cardamom tea.

Notes

For best flavor, crush cardamom pods just before brewing and warm your mug beforehand.
