Method
- Fill your highball or rocks glass with ice and set it aside while you build the drink to chill the glass.
- Cut your lime in half and juice it using a citrus juicer or by hand, pressing firmly to extract every drop.
- Pour a thin layer of sea salt into a shallow dish, then rub a lime wedge around the outer edge of your chilled glass. Roll the wet rim gently in the salt so it sticks evenly all the way around.
- Pour 2 ounces of silver tequila into your cocktail shaker or mason jar.
- Measure and pour 1 ounce of fresh lime juice and 0.5 ounce of fresh orange juice into the shaker with the tequila.
- Pour 0.5 ounce of orange liqueur and 0.5 ounce of simple syrup into the shaker.
- Pack your shaker with fresh ice, then seal it tightly and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
- Discard the ice from your prepared glass, then strain the contents of the shaker over fresh ice in the salted rim glass.
- Place a lime wheel on the rim of the glass or drop it into the drink as your final touch. Serve immediately while ice-cold.
Notes
Always use freshly squeezed lime and orange juice for best results. A quality silver tequila in the 40 to 50 dollar range works best. For parties, multiply all ingredients by the number of drinks needed and shake in batches. Store fresh citrus juices in sealed containers for up to 24 hours if prepping ahead.
