Ingredients

Main
  • 1 medium lime or 2-3 lime wedges
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 ounces 60 ml vodka
  • about 1 cup crushed ice

Equipment

  • Cocktail muddler or wooden spoon
  • Bar knife or sharp cutting knife
  • Cutting board
  • Cocktail glass or rocks glass (10-12 oz)
  • Jigger or measuring shot glass
  • Barspoon or long mixing spoon
  • Strainer (optional, for a smoother finish)

Method

  1. Slice 1 medium lime into quarters or wedges, trimming excess pith.
  2. Place lime wedges and 6-8 fresh mint leaves into a rocks glass.
  3. Muddle the lime and mint with a cocktail muddler or wooden spoon for 10-12 seconds, pressing gently to release oils and juice.
  4. Add 2 teaspoons white sugar over the muddled lime and mint.
  5. Stir the mixture for about 5 seconds to dissolve the sugar evenly.
  6. Fill the glass three-quarters full with about 1 cup of crushed ice.
  7. Pour 2 ounces (60 ml) vodka over the ice.
  8. Stir thoroughly for 10-15 seconds until the drink is well combined and slightly diluted.
  9. Taste and adjust by adding a pinch more sugar if too sour, then top with additional crushed ice and serve immediately.

Notes

Best served immediately; avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.
