Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces 60 ml vodka, chilled
  • 1 ounce 30 ml blueberry juice, fresh or quality store-bought
  • 1/2 cup about 60 grams fresh blueberries, rinsed and dried
  • 1/2 ounce 15 ml dry vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 ounce 7 ml simple syrup, or to taste
  • Ice cubes for shaking and chilling the glass
  • 3 to 4 fresh blueberries for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker (Boston or standard)
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Mixing glass or half of Boston shaker
  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon
  • Martini glass or coupe glass
  • Fine-mesh strainer (optional)

Method

  1. Rinse fresh blueberries under cold water and pat completely dry with a paper towel.
  2. Chill your martini glass by filling it with ice and cold water and let sit for 1 minute.
  3. Discard the ice water from the glass and set the glass aside.
  4. Place half of the fresh blueberries in a mixing glass and gently muddle until they release juice, about 10 seconds.
  5. Add chilled vodka, blueberry juice, dry vermouth, lemon juice, and simple syrup to the muddled berries.
  6. Fill the mixing glass three-quarters full with ice cubes and stir with a bar spoon for 10 to 12 seconds.
  7. Strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and, if desired, a fine mesh strainer for a smoother texture.
  8. Garnish with 3 to 4 fresh blueberries and serve immediately while cold.

Notes

Serve immediately for best flavor. Freeze blueberries for garnish to keep the drink colder longer.
