Ingredients
  

Main
  • 1.5 ounces 45 ml vodka
  • 4 ounces 120 ml tomato juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.25 teaspoon hot sauce adjust to taste
  • 0.25 teaspoon fresh grated horseradish or 0.5 teaspoon prepared
  • 0.5 ounce 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 0.25 ounce 7.5 ml fresh lime juice
  • 2 pinches celery salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 celery stalk for garnish
  • 1 lemon wheel or lime wheel for rim and garnish
  • Olives or pickled vegetables optional for skewer garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mixing glass
  • Bar spoon or long spoon for stirring
  • Jigger for measuring spirits and mixers
  • Tall glass (10 to 14 ounces)
  • Citrus juicer or hand squeezer
  • Vegetable peeler or paring knife for garnishes
  • Cutting board for prep work

Method
 

  1. Fill your tall glass with fresh ice cubes and let it sit for a moment to chill while you prepare the drink.
  2. Pour 1.5 ounces of vodka into your cocktail shaker using a jigger for accuracy.
  3. Add 4 ounces of tomato juice to the shaker with your vodka.
  4. Add 0.5 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce and 0.25 teaspoon hot sauce to the shaker.
  5. Stir in 0.25 teaspoon grated fresh horseradish, 0.5 ounce fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 ounce fresh lime juice.
  6. Season with 2 pinches of celery salt and 1 pinch of black pepper.
  7. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the outside is frosty.
  8. Strain the mixture into your chilled, ice-filled glass.
  9. Garnish with a celery stalk and a lemon or lime wheel, and add olives or pickled vegetables on a skewer if desired.

Notes

Chill your glass beforehand and always use fresh citrus juice squeezed by hand for the brightest flavor.
