Method
- Add 1.5 tablespoons black sesame powder to a small bowl, tapping the spoon gently to avoid overpacking.
- Pour 3 tablespoons cold water into the bowl and whisk vigorously for about 30 seconds until a smooth, lump-free paste forms.
- Heat 1 cup milk in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until steam rises and the milk reaches 160 to 170°F, about 3 minutes.
- If using sweetener, stir 1 to 2 teaspoons into the black sesame paste until fully dissolved.
- If using vanilla extract, whisk 1/4 teaspoon into the paste until combined.
- Slowly pour one-quarter of the hot milk into the paste while whisking continuously to warm and blend the mixture smoothly.
- Pour the black sesame mixture into a mug, then add the remaining hot milk while stirring gently to combine.
- Taste the latte and add more sweetener or vanilla if desired while the beverage is still hot.
Notes
Serve hot or cold. Store leftover black sesame paste separately in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, stirring before use.
